What Is a Wheelchair Evaluation?

A wheelchair evaluation is a hands-on assessment your therapist uses to match you with the right mobility equipment for your body and daily routine. We look at your posture, trunk and limb strength, transfer ability (getting in and out of a chair, bed, or vehicle), and the layout of your home to figure out what type of chair, seating, and positioning support will actually work for you — not just what is available off the shelf. If you already use a wheelchair, we also check the fit of your current equipment for pressure points, poor posture, or parts that no longer meet your needs.

Who This Service May Be For

This evaluation is often considered for patients recovering from a stroke, spinal cord injury, progressive neurological condition, or major orthopedic surgery, as well as older adults whose mobility has declined to the point that walking alone is no longer safe or practical.
